Entertainment is a form of art, often associated with amusement and fun. However, it can be taken to a serious and critical level as seen in various forms of ceremony, religious festival or satire for example. Entertainment can also be adapted to scale: from private entertainments involving one individual; to banquets adapted for many; to performances intended for an audience of thousands or more.
Oliver and Barstsch (2010) define entertainment as an activity understood objectively, that involves communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience to exist and occurs in a passive form.
